A new journal for a new age
We welcome you to Police Command Studies International, our new online journal, a subscription publication dedicated to the
career interests of professional police officers throughout the United Kingdom and world-wide. The journal is an integral part of the Command
Media series of e-learning and virtual college platforms in support of the
public sector.
Police Command Studies International provides the latest thinking in
management development, methodology and technical research, plus
practical solutions to front-end problems and the evaluation of equipment
newly available. The journal papers, a forthcoming section of which will be
peer reviewed, provide a forum for current views and ideas; these are to
be supported by coverage of recent events, international conferences,
seminars and publications. A unique feature, of value to international
readers, is the journal’s availability in a wide range of languages according to demand. An international dialogue is critical in this age of uncertainty which embraces all nations and it is hoped, therefore, that the journal will
represent an opportunity to contribute towards greater understanding.
Police Command Studies International is of value to all concerned with the
study of police leadership and the practice of police management
development as represented by the leading police training centres of
excellence world-wide. The journal readership profile will be those
officers who are aware of the need to tap-in to the contemporary thinking
of the very best police professionals and academics; knowledge which is a
vital component to their work experience and police career development.
The readership spans all levels of seniority, from police officers who are about to lead for the first time to police officers in command appointments and support staff.
The papers published by Police Command Studies International will, at all
times, be relevant to the implementation of best practice, from primary ground level issues to the higher reaches of management. Subject areas under regular discussion will include, for example:
• Crisis and non-crisis decision making
• Community policing
• Leadership styles
• Commercial awareness
• Ethics
• Public order training
• Culture change
• Risk assessment
• Operational strategies
• Intelligence gathering
Command Media titles are closely
associated with professional groups within the public safety sector where
ongoing educational development is necessary to career progress. Current
research and development papers, case studies and best practice notes
from academics and practitioners world-wide are the core contributions, collated by the multi-national Editorial Boards to meet the specific needs of a particular set of disciplines or professional group.
